About Technion - Israel Institute of Technology

Technion Israel Institute of Technology is Israel’s biggest science and engineering university, located in the city of Haifa.
It is made up of 18 faculties offering around 50 undergraduate programmes and dozens of graduate courses, covering the main science and engineering disciplines and associated fields such as architecture, medicine and computer science.
Over the years, the Technion has established itself as a leading academic institution in AI. CSRankings, the leading metrics-based ranking of top computer science institutions around the world, has ranked the Technion #1 in the field of artificial intelligence in Europe (and of course, in Israel), and 15th worldwide. In the subfield of machine learning, the Technion is ranked 11th worldwide. The data used to compile the rankings is from 2016 to 2021.
Technion researchers have won Nobel Prizes for chemistry on several occasions in recent years, beginning in 2004, when Aaron Ciechanover and Avram Hershko shared the award with an American colleague for their work on protein degradation. In 2011, Dan Chectman took the prize for his work on the formation of quasicrystals, two years before a Technion graduate, Arieh Warshel, was victorious.
The university maintains a network of international relationships, operating the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute in New York in partnership with Cornell University, and opening a campus in China’s Guangdong province.

Member's activity within the consortium

Within the consortium, our group is responsible for two key modules at the core of the system:

  • A novel machine learning based human intervention prediction module. This module predicts for every operated vehicle the probability that human intervention will be required in the near future.
  • A novel multi-agent reinforcement-learning based transmission controller. This module controls the transmissions over the available communication networks of every operated vehicle. The decentralized control policy is learned from experience and is adaptive to the ever changing environment.
